Welcome!
My name is Fatemeh Ekhtesari.
I am a writer and poet, and like you, I lived in a country where laws and regulations controlled many aspects of women’s lives.
Eight years ago I moved to Norway, where I’ve met many other women who have experienced the same transition.
In this project, we want to hear your story.

Different Journeys, Different Voices
I know that every woman’s journey is different. Some resented the restrictions they faced, some found ways to navigate or subvert them, and others never questioned them until they left. Likewise, life in Norway brings a wide range of experiences—some liberating, some difficult, and some unexpected. There is no single story that defines us, and every experience is worth telling.
That’s why I am leading this oral history project, to interview people like us and record the diverse experiences of women who have lived under restrictive laws and now live in Norway.
Why Your Story Matters
Your story—whatever it is—can help others understand different perspectives, challenge misconceptions, and improve the way Norway supports women with similar backgrounds.
We want to hear your story—whatever it may be. Your challenges, your victories, your struggles, your joys, and even the things you may not yet have put into words. Every experience is unique, and every voice matters.
You Are in Control
- Talking to me does not mean you have to take part. You can ask questions, share as much or as little as you want, and decide later if you want your story to be included.
- There is no pressure. This is your choice, and you will always have control over how your story is told.
- Your safety and privacy come first. We take security very seriously and can discuss ways to protect your identity if needed.
